Dr. John Preston “Pres” Parry and the staff at Positive Steps Fertility understand that the infertility journey is not easy. The decision to seek fertility treatment is an important step. We are committed to providing an exceptional patient experience, straightforward communication, and expert care to help you achieve your goals.
What Happens When You Become a Patient
From your first visit to our fertility center to your final treatment, we aim to provide an excellent experience and treat you like family. We will help you build a custom treatment plan to help you reach your goal of parenthood. Getting started is as simple as calling our office, requesting an appointment online, or having your primary doctor refer you.
The New Patient Process
Before your first appointment, one of our licensed nurses will do an initial phone consultation to complete your patient registration and gather information about your attempts to conceive, your medical history (yours and your partner’s), and particular goals or questions you may have.
When you arrive for your first appointment, a staff member will greet and check you in. You can access new patient paperwork online and complete it before your arrival, so you will only need to fill out a few forms. We may further discuss your medical, reproductive, and family history and review lifestyle factors. We aim to understand your unique needs and situation thoroughly to provide you with the most tailored and effective care.
Please consider bringing any pertinent medical records, prior fertility evaluations, and treatment reports with you to your initial appointment; this will greatly assist us in providing you with the best care.
Bringing relevant medical records and prior fertility evaluations to your first appointment would be greatly appreciated. Though you don’t have to postpone an appointment waiting for records, if you’ve had any of these tests, bringing these results to your visit can make it easier to have a clearer picture of your fertility:
- Previous chlamydia and gonorrhea testing, which you typically will need to do if not done previously, as testing and treatment could spread these infections
- Last Pap smear
- Hemoglobin or hematocrit (are you anemic?)
- TSH (is your thyroid working?)
- Previous testing for PCOS or recurrent miscarriages
- Hysterosalpingogram (HSG) images (preferable to just a written report)
- Operative notes (particularly for laparoscopy or tubal ligation).
Once we’ve reviewed your history, we can discuss why conception has taken longer than it should for you. We will outline our plan for infertility evaluation, explain the reasoning for each test, and a timeline for testing and beginning treatment.
We will always ensure that you leave your first visit with a clear understanding of the treatment plan we have decided on together and the next steps for you as a patient. Always let us know if you have any questions so we can discuss them as soon as possible.

Please bring the following to your appointment:
Insurance and identification cards
A list of all medications you are currently taking (including over-the-counter remedies, vitamins, and herbal supplements)
All medical records, including prior fertility evaluations and treatment records
Write down any questions or concerns you may wish to discuss
We recommend couples come to appointments together. However, you can bring a family member or friend if you would like. That person can help by listening to your doctor’s comments and responses to your questions and writing down essential information for you.
Health Insurance Coverage for Fertility Treatments
At this point, insurance coverage for infertility is often poor or nonexistent. At multiple points, we’ve had patients thinking they have coverage, only to be denied by insurance. Sometimes, even if patients are permitted copays and deductibles, they make a minimal difference from not having insurance.
As a result, we don’t directly accept insurance like many dental and dermatology practices. We keep our prices low, as though you had fertility coverage, and then we are happy to work with you to submit an out-of-network benefit claim to your insurer. Don’t hesitate to get in touch with us if you have questions about billing or how to do this for testing, IUI (intrauterine insemination) packages, or IVF (in vitro fertilization).
