Parryscope Minimally Invasive Surgical Services

One of our goals at Parryscope® is to understand as much as we can about the body in as gentle a fashion as possible. The more you can see, the easier it is to create a treatment plan that makes the most of a person’s fertility and helps with wellness. Minimally invasive surgery often helps us arrive at the most accurate diagnosis.

Changes in Fertility Testing

In the past (~20+ years ago), people would often undergo two types of surgeries to understand the pelvis for fertility:

  • Laparotomy – open surgery, often with a “bikini-cut” incision
  • Laparoscopy – fiberoptic/chip-based camera advanced through the belly button to look inside the pelvis and at the outside of the uterus.

Laparoscopy is one of the two primary minimally invasive surgeries for gynecology, with the other being hysteroscopy, where a fiberoptic/chip-based camera advances through the cervix to look inside the uterus. Though laparoscopy still typically requires general anesthesia (being asleep) and incisions, hysteroscopy is advancing to where both diagnostic and operative surgery can be performed in the office.

For the field of fertility, many are dropping routine laparoscopy to assess fertility thanks to a blend of cost-effectiveness, risk and other factors. Using the Parryscope technique, we believe minimally invasive surgery still has an important role to play, but find some of the best value through hysteroscopy. By combining hysteroscopy with ultrasound, one can quickly figure out most of what one needs to know for the core factors in female fertility (ovaries, tubes and uterus).

Ultrasound through antral follicle count is gold standard for the ovaries, hysteroscopy combined with ultrasound is arguably gold standard for the uterus, and our Parryscope technique uses hysteroscopy to assess tubal patency in a way that is accurate, gentle, convenient and safe. This is all at a much lower cost than laparoscopy, and without incisions or anesthesia.
