Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery Services with Parryscope®
One of our goals at Positive Steps Fertility is to understand as much as we can about the body in as gentle a fashion as possible. The more you can see, the easier it is to create a treatment plan that makes the most of your fertility and helps with wellness.
Minimally invasive surgery often helps us arrive at the most accurate diagnosis.
Changes in Fertility Testing
In the past (~20+ years ago), people would often undergo three types of surgeries to understand the pelvis for fertility:
● Laparotomy – open surgery, often with a “bikini-cut” incision
● Laparoscopy – fiberoptic/chip-based camera advanced through the belly button to look inside the pelvis and at the outside of the uterus.
● Hysteroscopy – fiberoptic/chip-based camera advanced vaginally through the cervix to look inside the uterus
An alternative approach to Diagnostic Exploratory Laparoscopy
Laparoscopy is one of the two primary minimally invasive surgeries for gynecology. The other is Hysteroscopy, where a fiberoptic/chip-based camera advances through the cervix to look inside the uterus. Laparoscopy typically requires general anesthesia (sedation to be put asleep) and incisions in an operating room. However, Hysteroscopy has advanced to be performed in an office setting and combines diagnostic and operative surgery.
Thanks to a blend of cost-effectiveness, risk, and other factors, many in the fertility industry are dropping routine laparoscopy as an assessment procedure. Using our patented Parryscope technique, we believe minimally invasive surgery still has an important role but find some of the best value through Hysteroscopy. By combining Hysteroscopy with ultrasound, one can quickly figure out most of what you need to know about the core factors in female fertility:
● Ovarian egg reserve,
● Fallopian tube patency to determine if any blockages would keep sperm and egg from meeting, and the
● Uterus’s suitability for embryo implantation and successful pregnancy.
Ultrasound through antral follicle count is considered the gold standard for evaluating the ovaries. Hysteroscopy combined with ultrasound is arguably the gold standard for evaluating the uterus’s suitability for embryo implantation. And our Parryscope technique uses Hysteroscopy to assess tubal patency (being open) in an accurate, gentle, convenient, and safe way. These can all be performed simultaneously at a much lower cost than laparoscopy without incisions or anesthesia.
